Oscars Four Icon Challenge

The night before the Oscars I got the idea to make four icon challenges for the movies nominated for Best Picture. Because I didn’t think of this until 10pm the night before the Oscars, and because I had to work most of the day of the Oscars I did not finish these until now.  There were 9 nominees and so what follows are my 9 attempts at four icon challenges. Zero Dark Thirty was the hardest one for me to figure out what to draw but some of them (Life of Pi) were really easy.
My sister was able to guess all of them so I guess they’re not completely horrible but in case my art is bad I’ll write what the icons are supposed to be under the pictures.
Here are the 9 Best Picture Nominees see if you can match them up: Django Unchained, Amour, Silver Linings Playbook, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Zero Dark Thirty, Les Miserables,  and the eventual winner Argo.
Stovepipe hat, the number 13, Confederate Flag & American flag, Capital Building

Ballet shoes, Vest made out of a plastic trash bag, Football, Letter

Vhs tape, Darkness, Binoculars, Helicopter

Heart, Piano, Wheelchair, Pigeon

Rain boots, Storm, Boat, Alligator

Canada, 6 people, Film camera, Azadi Tower

Tooth, Broken handcuffs, Gun, Cigarette holder

Loaf of Bread, Broken handcuffs, French flag, Silver candlesticks

Lifeboat, Tiger, Pi, Cross

I know I used broken handcuffs for two of them but they both seemed to work well. Good luck if you attempt to guess 🙂

Ridiculous Horror Movie: Manatee

Manatee/ The once gentle manatees are tired of dealing with humans. For years they’ve been getting hurt by boat propellers, but no more. You thought you only had to deal with sharks in the ocean? Well now look out for Manatee.

While remarkably similar in theory to my “The Squirrels” this one I have had in my head for awhile. I’d seen a couple of the cheesy SyFy movies like “Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus”, “Mega Shark versus Giant Octopus”, “Mega Python vs. Gatoraid” (what? I have EXCELLENT taste in movies), plus “Jaws” and “Piranha”. So I was thinking what killer creature from the sea hasn’t been done yet? Better yet… what is the kindest/gentlest sea creature that would be least likely to attack humans? Manatees! So yeah this spawned before The Squirrels.
This poster is, clearly, based off of the “Jaws” poster. I even used the same font “Amity Jack.”

Ridiculous Horror Movie: Cinco De Die-o

Cinco De Die-o/ Five co-eds head down to Mexico to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Their celebration angers the local spirits and what was meant to be a drunkenly forgotten holiday turns into one they will never forget. That is if they survive.

Thanks to my sister for posing, you can’t see it but she was giving me an “are you serious?” look the entire time.

This one was made with Cabin in the Woods and/or Cabin Fever in mind. Basically the “college kids piss of the ghosts/zombies” trope.  And I realize Mexico, for the most part, doesn’t celebrate Cinco De Mayo, perhaps that’s why the spirits were pissed.  Frankly, I’m surprised this movie hasn’t been made yet the Mayo/Die-o play one words is awesome, if I do say so myself.  I mean, they have Santa’s Slay and Gingerdead Man but not this?

Ridiculous Horror Movie: The Squirrels

The Squirrels// After years of leaving seed out for the birds with strange contraptions to prevent the Squirrels from getting to the feeders, the Squirrels have had enough.  You might think they’re cute but be careful leaving your house now.

I was able to use the content fill trick for this so yay! 🙂 This one was kind of made with “The Birds” in mind, since there’s like a swarm of some sort of animal.

Yet another movie poster GIF

This time I made a movie poster for Atonement.

The bottom half is part of the original poster, the top half is a gif I made from a scene in the movie. Umm… my thought process on this is kind of weird but I’ll give it a shot at explaining it though I suck at explaining things (I could also be completely wrong in the interpretation of the scene.)
Very basic explanation of scene: Keira Knightley’s character (Cecilia) had jumped into the fountain to retrieve a piece of a vase that had fallen into the water (partly Robbie, James McAvoy’s, character’s fault). She walks off in a huff and then Robbie sits on the edge of the fountain and places his hand to the water barely disturbing it. I kind of thought it was like he was reaching out for Cecilia or something. And I thought it would look cool the way this poster was split. I don’t know it sounds stupid.

Take 2 with the gif reversing.

I’ll Just Put this Here

This is super dooper late. I talked with Jim Groom but I don’t think I expected it to be this late. Two jobs + Classes + Full Weekend of Rugby is not conducive to getting a lot of stuff done. I know I said I was going to do Edward Scissorhands Gmail but I thought Finding Nemo Facebook page would be more fun and more interesting. I ran into problems with the newsfeed refreshing and I am having trouble saving the HTML but I have the screengrab. It’s from Marlin’s point of view and at the beginning it’s mostly Dory in his newsfeed as she is really his only friend but then as the story (movie) goes on he meets more people.
I also included Ariel from Little Mermaid on there because she lives/d under the sea and is also a Disney character.

I also ran into trouble using the screen grab firefox app, it wouldn’t save or copy the page in a thing that could be opened in photoshop or paint so I had to do control + print screen a couple times to get the whole page.
And as for the last names… I made them up from the types of fish they are.
My favorite part of the facebook newsfeed is Bruce’s status about needing to start his Fish Are Friends Not Food program.

Webstory Idea

I had a couple ideas for the webstory project but  Ithink I’ve settled on making Edward Scissorhand’s email inbox. I’ll use my gmail inbox as the base for the project and then edit the e-mail titles and senders to make seem like it was his inbox. I got the idea from here. Except on that site he actually e-mails himself to create the inboxes. They are quite funny, my favorite is the gollum one.

Movies on Facebook: Star Wars

I actually started this before class this evening so the Star Wars overload in class did not (entirely) influence this. Just motivated me to finish sooner. 🙂 Good thing I don’t have class tomorrow.

Tell me have you ever googled “How to type out Chewbacca noises?” I have. It’s not very helpful actually..

This took a couple hours and I’m proud of how it turned out even though it’s a bit sloppier than the last movie facebook thing I did.

What I did was take a screenshot of my newsfeed and put in the “profile pics” and names and comments and stuff in photoshop.

Four Icon Challenge

Behold my art. Try not to laugh, hopefully you can figure out what the icons are supposed to be. Also, I hope you can guess the movie.

Can you guess it? Can you can you can you? The fire is a little lame… but fire is hard to draw.

The movie is Castaway with Tom Hanks. Now, I haven’t seen this movie in awhile but it actually helped a bit. This is what I remember of the movie.

Fed Ex- Tom Hanks worked for it. He scavenged through the packages that washed ashore to find things that might help him survive. He also saves one package to deliver when he is rescued.
Fire- He tries to make fire for a reeeeeeeeally long time. When he succeeds there is a big scene where he is shouting at the sky “I. have made fire!”
Volleyball- (I thought it would be too easy if I drew the red handprint face on the ball) Tom Hanks’s only friend on the island, despite being an inanimate object. Tom Hanks loses Wilson to the sea when trying to make his escape (Wiiiiiiiiiiiilsooooooooooon)
Ice Water- Tom Hanks is rescued and drinks ice water on the plane.

I hope you were able to guess the movie and were not thrown off by my art. I made this by hand drawing the icons then painting over them in photoshop. My drawing skills with the mouse are not the best.

Movies on Facebook: Fight Club

I mentioned in a previous post I had several ideas floating around in my head but did not have time to work one them. Well, finally this afternoon I was able to start and finish one of my projects.  This contains a Fight Club spoiler so if you haven’t seen it… sorry.

Basically this is from the point of view of Edward Norton’s character. He just became friends with Tyler Durden in real life and then seeks him out on facebook.

And by trying to friend him he discovers this. Would have made the movie shorter 🙂

To make this I took a screenshot of someone’s facebook page and then removed pretty much every personal information bit. The hardest part was trying to match up the font and font colors.  I tossed in some fun things, like the ad at the bottom right and the “you and Tyler” part.

Also, I don’t know why I left in the Spanglish part for what Tyler speaks… I just forgot about it. Whoops.
